(Cambridge, MA – August 3, 2020 ) Club Passim, the legendary Cambridge, MA listening room is bringing Open Mic Night back and moving it online. All artists and all genres are welcome Tuesday nights to perform two songs, or play for 10 minutes on Passim’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. Artists looking to participate in the open mic can sign up now at Passim.org.
Open Mic Night has a long history at Club Passim. For decades renowned artists like Mary Gauthier, Anais Mitchell, Josh Ritter, Ryan Montbleau, Tall Heights, The Ballroom Thieves, Mark Erelli and more all were regulars at the shows.
“While we are predominately a music open mic, we also welcome poetry, storytelling, and comedy,” said Matt Smith, managing director at Passim. “We want to offer a space for all artists in New England to express themselves as many struggle to find creative outlets during the pandemic.”
Hosted by Smith, the virtual open mic nights will feature 10 different acts. Each act will have the opportunity to perform 2 songs or 10 minutes (whichever comes first). Covers are allowed, but originals are encouraged. Artists will be limited to one performance per month.
Artists looking to participate can sign up now at passim.org. The next Open Mic show is Tuesday, August 4th at 7:00 PM. Registration is now open through the show on August 25.
About Passim
The mission of Passim is to provide truly exceptional and interactive live musical experiences for both performers and audiences, to nurture artists at all stages of their career, and to build a vibrant music community. Passim does so through their legendary listening venue, music school, artist grants and outreach programs. As a nonprofit since 1994, Passim carries on the heritage of our predecessors-the historic Club 47 (1958-1968) and for-profit Passim (1969-1994). We cultivate a diverse mix of musical traditions, where the emphasis is on the relationship between performers and audience and teachers and students. Located in Harvard Square, Passim serves Cambridge and the broader region by featuring local, national and international artists. Our ultimate goal is to help the performance arts flourish and thereby enrich the lives of members of our community. For a complete schedule, visit www.passim.org.
