Boston International Kids Film Festival Announces Summer Filmmaking Workshops for Students

Interested in inspiring kids to flex their creative muscle? The Boston International Kids Film Festival has opened registration for its annual summer film school for children. FC Academy provides week-long film classes for middle school kids, taking them through the entire filmmaking process, ending the week having produced their own short film. FC Academy will offer twelve sessions over the summer, beginning July 8th and continuing through August 23rd. Registration is now open at www.bikff.org.

Through the week-long program, students will learn script writing, storyboard sketching, character development, improvisation, and camera skills. Together, the group will write, shoot, and edit a film in a genre of their choosing. The classes are taught by professional filmmakers using professional equipment such as Adobe Premiere Pro editing software. All final projects will be viewed on the big screen in front of family and friends and are eligible for submission into the Boston International Kids Film Festival, scheduled for November 2019.

For the first time in 2019, a special documentary program at the Cabot Theater in Beverly will be offered as part of FC Academy during the week of July 8, 2019. In this class, students will follow artists as they create a pair of giant murals on the side of the historic theater. Students will get a behind-the-scenes look as the artists plan out the work, set up all the equipment and begin the monumental task of painting a four-story tall mural on the side of a near century old building. Students will spend their week shooting and editing a documentary film of this effort.

“FC Academy provides us with an opportunity to inspire and educate the next generation of filmmakers,” said Laura Azevedo, Festival Director of the Boston International Kids Film Festival. “It is remarkable to see the work these students are able to accomplish in just one week.”
