(Cambridge) Musician, singer, and composer Joy Askew mixes the sounds of British brass bands and American folk rock at Club Passim December 5th, 8:00PM.
Arriving in New York from London, Askew was following her dream as a musician. Before long, she found herself singing and playing on the iconic ‘Stepping Out” tour with Joe Jackson. Cutting her reputation as a highly regarded vocalist, she went on to play and sing on tours and albums with Laurie Anderson, Phoebe Snow, Rodney Crowell, Peter Gabriel and others before launching a solo career. She has since gone on to release eight albums, the latest being “Queen Victoria”, which was recorded in England with a British brass band.
Askew will be performing with a band curated specifically for the Passim show by Zachariah Hickman including Marco Giovino on drums (Robert Plant, Band of Joy, Patty Griffin), Andrew Stern on guitar (Beat Circus, Bob Bradshaw) and Hickman on bass (Ray Lamontagne, Josh Ritter).
