Kemp Harris Offers A Day of Storytelling and Live Music at Club Passim

Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 4PM & 7PM

(Cambridge, MA) Singer Songwriter Kemp Harris will stream a pair of unique shows from Club Passim on February 20. At 4:00 PM it is story hour, as Harris mixes African folk tales, original stories, and familiar stories in literature in a show designed for children. At 7:00 PM, Harris brings his powerful, intimate performance style back to the stage for a live music set streamed from the legendary folk club. Both shows are presented as part of Passim’s celebration of Black History Month! Throughout February, Passim is hosting a series of Black History Month concerts, workshops, and events highlighting Black artists in our community and the folk scene as a whole. Both of Harris’s shows will stream for free from Passim Facebook and YouTube pages, as well as www.passim.org/stream. Donations are encouraged.

Kemp Harris has been involved in the lives of children as a teacher and a storyteller for many years. He taught Kindergarten in Newton, MA for 38 years before semi-retiring. Kemp’s teaching skills as well as his background in music and theater are ever-present in his performances. In addition to traditional concerts, he has performed at storytelling festivals, libraries, and schools. Kemp adamantly believes that the incorporation of movement and expression is essential to the oral tradition of “telling,” and it is solely responsible for keeping the art form exciting and relevant.

Harris will also teach a special class at the Passim School of Music on Sunday, February 21, at 1:00 PM. Titled “Stories from the Wind”, the class will explore ways to foster interaction and movement through song and storytelling and tailor a performance to different age groups. Details on the class and registration information can be found at https://www.passim.org/school-of-music/classes-workshops/stories-on-the-wind/.

Kemp Harris will stream an hour of stories live from Club Passim on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 4PM. He will also perform his music live from the club at 7:00 PM that night. Both shows will stream for free from Passim Facebook and YouTube pages, as well as www.passim.org/stream.

About Passim

The mission of Passim is to provide truly exceptional and interactive live musical experiences for both performers and audiences, to nurture artists at all stages of their career, and to build a vibrant music community. Passim does so through their legendary listening venue, music school, artist grants, and outreach programs. As a nonprofit since 1994, Passim carries on the heritage of our predecessors-the historic Club 47 (1958-1968) and for-profit Passim (1969-1994). We cultivate a diverse mix of musical traditions, where the emphasis is on the relationship between performers and audience and teachers and students. Located in Harvard Square, Passim serves Cambridge and the broader region by featuring local, national, and international artists. Our ultimate goal is to help the performance arts flourish and thereby enrich the lives of members of our community. For a complete schedule, visit www.passim.org.
