PITCH LIKE A PRO: GRAB THE ATTENTION OF MUSIC JOURNALISTS
PASSIM SCHOOL OF MUSIC OFFERS WORKSHOP FOR MUSICANS
CONDUCTED BY VICTORIA WASYLAK ON SATURDAY JULY 9, 2022
(Cambridge, MA- JUNE 23, 2022) Boston area musicians are invited to learn how to make their next single (or album, or music video) stand out in any journalist’s inbox at Pitch Like A Pro: Grab the Attention of Music Journalists, a two-hour workshop at the Passim School of Music Saturday July 9th at 1pm.
60,000 songs are uploaded to Spotify every day. That’s a lot of other artists vying for attention from the press. Editor and music critic Victoria Wasylak leads this workshop designed to help working musicians develop a marketing strategy as valuable as their music.
Among the topics covered in this 90-minute session will be:
- What does it take to get covered by the media?
- What do journalists look for in a strong pitch?
- What materials should be included in their pitch?
- How to identify what makes their music (and their story) compelling
- How to give better interviews and give stronger quotes
A 30 minute Q&A brainstorming session will complete the workshop.
Victoria Wasylak is an award-winning journalist and music critic from Boston, Massachusetts. As Music Editor, Boston, of Vanyaland, she documents the triumphs of artists from Massachusetts, New England, and around the globe.
Victoria’s 1,000-plus articles for Vanyaland peel back layers of sociopolitical perspective on the best damn new music, whether an artist has four Spotify followers or four million. Her criticism and witticisms amplify the musicians and movements shaping the landscape of today’s music industry. (Although, on rare occasions, she’s not above panning a Justin Bieber remix or two).
When she’s not furiously scribbling show reviews in her notebook at TD Garden, she’s on the phone with some of the best entertainers of our time, from Lizzo to Shirley Manson, Peter Wolf to Carrie Brownstein.
She was named “Music Journalist of the Year” at the Boston Music Awards in 2019 and 2021 for her extensive work with Vanyaland. She also writes episodes of Disgraceland, the #1 most-downloaded music podcast in the world.
Outside of journalism, Victoria is a professional member of the Recording Academy and works as the Assistant Vice Chair of Membership and Communications for the Boston chapter of Women in Music.
