Club Passim’s Campfire Festival Returns Online For An End of Summer Celebration

More than 100 artists perform September 4 – 7

(Cambridge, MA) Club Passim’s annual Labor Day Weekend music festival campfire is moving online with more than 100 artists spread out over four days. The lineup is loaded with familiar acts like Alisa Amador, Lloyd Thayer, and Liv Greene as well as many who have never played Passim before. Friday night, there will be a special in-the-round performance presented by Basic Folk podcast host Cindy Howes featuring KT Tunstall, Jenny Owen Youngs, Sunny War, and Alex Stanton. Running  from 5PM – 11PM every night September 4 – 7, the entire festival will be streamed online at Passim’s Facebook page and at passim.org/campfire. The schedule is online now at passim.org

Campfire started 22 years ago, and has become the single-biggest way that Passim develops new talent and celebrates the Boston area’s amazing music community. The festival traditionally runs twice a year on both Memorial and Labor Day Weekends. The  digital format will allow for new artists that would not normally be able to perform to be part of the festival this Labor Day Weekend.  Musicians from Canada, Australia, Spain, Guatemala, Singapore will all take part in campfire.

“While virtual shows will never match the excitement of live music, we are creating a unique experience with the virtual campfire,” said Matt Smith, Managing Director of Club Passim. “Artists are able to interact with one another in-the-round. Folks that submit videos can come on to talk about them live. We can have artists from all over the world and no one has to find parking in Harvard Square! We can’t wait to get back to the club, but through the web we have been able to grow new audiences for artists through the platforms we have.”

The streaming shows begin September 4 and run nightly from 5PM – 11PM through September 7. All shows can be viewed at passim.org/campfire with a $15/day suggested donation.

About Passim

The mission of Passim is to provide truly exceptional and interactive live musical experiences for both performers and audiences, to nurture artists at all stages of their career, and to build a vibrant music community. Passim does so through their legendary listening venue, music school, artist grants and outreach programs. As a nonprofit since 1994, Passim carries on the heritage of our predecessors-the historic Club 47 (1958-1968) and for-profit Passim (1969-1994). We cultivate a diverse mix of musical traditions, where the emphasis is on the relationship between performers and audience and teachers and students. Located in Harvard Square, Passim serves Cambridge and the broader region by featuring local, national and international artists. Our ultimate goal is to help the performance arts flourish and thereby enrich the lives of members of our community. For a complete schedule, visit www.passim.org.
