ethos Once Again Offers U23 Pricing For 2018 Events

Registration Fees Should Not Be a Barrier to Young Athlete Participation

BOSTON – April 3,  2018 – ethos, the mass participation event organization created to bring athletes together through challenging and unique sporting events, is once again reinforcing its commitment to young athletes.  The organization is once again offering athletes under the age of 23 reduced registration fees for all its upcoming triathlons, including the 2018 Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon and the 2018 Lobsterman Triathlon.

In 2017, ethos reduced entry fees for both the Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon and the Lobsterman Triathlon. Entry fees were reduced by 50% off the final registration price for athletes under the age of 23.   In 2017, 160 athletes took advantage of this program.

In 2018, entry fees will again be reduced by 50% off the final registration price for athletes under the age of 23. These reduced fees will apply to all distance at the events. Entry fees are for individual athletes only.

“In 2017, we saw an increased number of U23 athletes competing in both the Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon and the Lobsterman Triathlon, reinforcing our belief that high registration fees are a barrier to participation for many U23 athletes,” said Michael O’Neil, president of ethos. “As producers of these events, we need to find ways to encourage the next generation of athletes in this sport.  The cost of racing, shouldn’t keep these young athletes from racing.”

The equipment necessary to compete in triathlon coupled with expensive race entrance fees, creates an additional challenge for younger athletes. For high school athletes, college athletes and those just starting out in their careers, this cost can quickly become a barrier to participation.

“Triathlon is an expensive sport and the cost of participation can be a deterrent for lots of young people, especially those of us who are still in school,” said Fiona Bowen, a student racing for the Dartmouth College Triathlon Team. “Our team is committed to making racing accessible to anyone who is interested and ethos’ assistance with entry fees certainly helps to make this possible.”

In 2018, the Northeast Collegiate Triathlon Conference has selected the 2018 Lobsterman Triathlon as one of their designated races.

“The Lobsterman Triathlon has become a destination race in the Northeast and a natural fit for our Conference,” said James Petersen of the Northeast Collegiate Triathlon Conference. “The commitment ethos has made to the U23 athlete helps to make the sport accessible to all and is an investment in the future of our sport. We are looking forward to competing at the Lobsterman Triathlon later this year.”

Now in its tenth year, the Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon will take place in South Boston on July 22, 2018. Athletes from across the world, the U.S. and New England are expected to compete in this unique and iconic event, which includes both Olympic and sprint distance races. A Kids Splash-and-Dash event will take place the day before on Saturday, July 21. Race and registration information is available at BostonTri.com.

The Lobsterman Triathlon is known across the United States for its stunning course, and its one-of-a-kind authentic Maine lobster bake. The 15th annual Olympic distance race will take place on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Winslow Park in Freeport, ME. This signature Maine experience draws sell-out crowds from six countries and more than 40 states each year. Registration is available at www.lobstermantri.com.

ethos races are supported by Columbia Threadneedle Investments, Kicking Horse Coffee, Normatec, and DrinkMaple.
