Handel and Haydn Society Reaching New Audiences Through H2 and Masterpass Programs

America’s Oldest Performing Arts Organization Continues to Engage Young Audiences

(Boston) The Handel and Haydn Society has revamped two programs designed to engage younger audiences and expand the next generation of classical and baroque music lovers. The H2 and Masterpass programs offer students and young adults up to age 40 discounted ticket prices and exclusive events following select concerts this season. Interested music lovers can sign up for either program at HandelandHaydn.org.

H² (H-squared) is H+H’s network for Boston’s young adults from ages 21-40. The $120 membership includes the full concert experience for several blockbuster H+H performances this season including British Baroque on February 2nd, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony on May 15th, and Brahms Requiem on April 21st. Members can bring a guest for just $25 more per concert. H2 also includes a number of mixers with other members and H+H musicians and pre-concert activities like instrument demos, talks and workshops, holiday parties, backstage tours, and more! The next H2 event will be immediately following the performance of British Baroque on February 2 at Jordan Hall.

The Masterpass is the perfect option for college students across the greater Boston area. For just $20, students attend up to 10 concerts this season. At $2 per concert, it is the most cost effective way to experience H+H.

H+H is also engaging students through a unique partnership with the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Launched in 2012, juniors in the Illustration Department of MassArt create original works of art in response to a masterwork being performed by H+H that year. H+H Historically Informed Performance Fellow Teresa Neff and an H+H musician work with students to provide an understanding of the background and composition of the selected work. The students’ works are judged by a jury and twelve are selected for display at Symphony Hall during the concert. This year, students will be interpreting Bach’s Mass in B Minor. The original artwork will be on display April 5 + 7 at Symphony Hall.
